The Virginia Reel

“The Virginia Reel” is a classic dance that was popular in colonial America and often associated with Christmas time. It was the traditional last dance of the evening. This dance can be found in the book The Chimes of Dunkirk by The New England Dancing Masters, and the song “The Virginia Reel” as recorded Sanna Longden on her DVD (#5) Historic and Contemporary Dances for Kids and Teachers can be used for accompaniment. The video below features students from Boone Meadow Elementary, led by their teacher William C Doublestein, during the 2018-2019 school year.
